General Conference...who watched it? Who loved it? I know I did--watched it and loved it!
Here are some highlights from Conference--my top 5 talks:
From "The Cost--and Blessings--of Discipleship":
- I love this talk! I just do. I just needed to hear this.
- "Pure Christlike love flowing from true righteousness can change the world."
- The following was said in directly addressing the youth, but this is still wonderfully applicable to all of us: "You may be wondering if it is worth it to take a courageous moral stand in high school, or to go on a mission only to have your most cherished beliefs reviled, or to strive against much in society that sometimes ridicules a life of religious devotion... Yes, it is worth it."
- "You can change anything you want to change."
- Side note: I will personally dub this talk as the most quoted General Conference amongst those I know.
- "There is something that will take away the bitterness that may come into our lives. There is one thing we can do to make life sweeter, even joyful, even glorious. We can be grateful."
- "We are made of the stuff of eternity. Endings are not our destiny. Endings in mortality are not endings at all. In His plan [of salvation], there are no true endings, only everlasting beginnings."
- "Gratitude is the catalyst for all Christ-like attributes."
- "Why do we resist endings? Because we are eternal beings. Endings are merely interruptions, a temporary pause in our eternal progression, which will one day seem small in the eternal joy waiting for us."
- "We can choose to be grateful, no matter what."
- "How much of life do we miss waiting to see the rainbow before thanking God for the rain?"
- "Set aside the bottle of bitterness and lift instead the goblet of gratitude."
- "You've prepared for this for millennia. This is your moment to perform. This is your four minutes! The time is now!"
- This talk is addressed using the Olympics as an example. It's awesome. Seriously. Just read it.
- We can't just love God. To truly love God, we must love others as well.
- "Love is the very essence of the gospel, and Jesus Christ is our Exemplar."
- A small act of charity can go a long way and affect the life of someone else more than the person taking action may realize.
- "Blame keeps wounds open. Only forgiveness heals."
- This talk is, in short, the speaker's personal testimony of the gospel. I love how simple and beautiful it is. I love how, as I heard this message, I knew, too, that what he said was true. There are also some beautiful quotes in it.
- "We do not always know how or when blessings will present themselves, but the promise of eternal increase will not be denied any faithful individual who makes and keeps sacred covenants."
- "Each of us must come to our own personal testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. We then share that testimony with our family and others."
